Privacy Policy for Offline AI Notebook
The short version
Offline AI Notebook is a document Q&A and study app for iOS. All AI generation happens entirely on your device. We do not collect, transmit, store, or sell any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind.
What the app does on your device
- On-device document processing. PDFs, text, and Markdown files you import are read, indexed, and summarized locally on your device, including on-device OCR for scanned pages. Your documents are never uploaded anywhere.
- On-device AI generation. Answers to your questions and generated quizzes are produced locally by an AI model running on your device. Choose between Apple Intelligence (Apple's Foundation Models framework) or a built-in on-device open model (Qwen 3 via MLX) in Settings. Answers are grounded in your imported documents. Nothing you type or import ever leaves your device.
- On-device speech transcription. Audio you record in the app or import (lectures, meetings, voice memos) is transcribed locally on your device by a built-in open speech model (Whisper). Audio and transcripts are never uploaded anywhere. The app requests microphone access only when you tap Record, and does not use Apple's Speech framework. No speech data is ever sent to Apple or anyone else.
- Local storage. Your topics, imported documents, generated quizzes, Q&A history, streaks, and settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage (SwiftData). This data is never synced or uploaded, and it is permanently deleted if you delete the app.
- Local notifications. Daily study reminders are scheduled on your device at the time you choose. They are local notifications only. No remote push and no servers are involved.
Network access
The app does not connect to any server we operate, because we do not run any. The only network activity is:
- In-app purchase. Offline AI Notebook offers a one-time "Unlimited" purchase through Apple's in-app purchase system (StoreKit). The payment is processed entirely by Apple; the app never sees or stores your payment information. This is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
- One-time model downloads. On first use, the app may download an on-device embedding model (~200 MB) from a public model repository. If you choose the on-device AI engine in Settings, the app additionally downloads a chat model (~2.2 GB, only after your explicit consent). Before a first audio import or recording, the app downloads an on-device speech model (~216 to 600 MB depending on your choice in Settings, also only after your explicit consent). These downloads contain none of your data, and no document or audio content is ever sent out.
All AI features run on-device and require no network connection.
Data we do not collect
- No personal information (name, email, location, contacts, etc.)
- No usage analytics, crash reports, or diagnostics
- No advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking
- No documents, questions, answers, or study progress
Third-party services
The only third party involved is Apple, and only to process the optional in-app purchase described above. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Children's privacy
The app does not collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13, and is suitable for use without providing any personal information.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at lanewayoasis.com/zerocloud/privacy with a new effective date. Since the app collects no data and has no way to contact you, we encourage you to check this page after updates.
